The figure more than triples the valuation it carried earlier this year, according to sources familiar with the deal.

The round lands as enterprise spending on AI-assisted software development accelerates at a pace few corners of the technology market can match. Factory's agents do not simply autocomplete code. They plan tasks, open pull requests, review changes, and coordinate across repositories, a category investors now treat as a distinct layer of the enterprise stack rather than a feature inside an editor.

That distinction matters to the buyers Factory targets. Large engineering organizations have spent two years testing assistants that suggest lines of code. The harder problem is orchestration: assigning work to machines, verifying output, and keeping humans in control of systems that cannot afford silent failures. Factory positions its agents as teammates inside existing workflows, not replacements for developer judgment.

The company has not disclosed the names of participating investors, and Inside AI could not independently verify the full cap table. The valuation jump from roughly $1.5 billion earlier in 2026 reflects both revenue momentum and a broader repricing of agentic coding startups. Rival vendors including Cursor, Cognition, and Poolside have raised large rounds on similar theses, and enterprise buyers now evaluate them side by side.

Why Enterprises Are Paying Up For Agents

Software development remains the most commercially proven use of generative AI. Unlike customer service or legal drafting, code generation produces measurable output: merged commits, closed tickets, shorter release cycles. Finance teams can attach a number to it. That clarity has pulled institutional capital toward coding agents even as funding for other AI categories cools.

The economics also favor incumbents less than expected. Coding agents integrate with GitHub, GitLab, and internal CI pipelines, which means switching costs sit with the agent vendor, not the repository host. A startup that earns trust across a thousand repositories becomes difficult to displace, a dynamic Factory is betting on.

Security and governance remain the open questions. Enterprises want audit trails showing which agent changed which file and why. They want agents constrained by policy, not merely prompted to behave. Factory's enterprise focus suggests it is selling controls as much as capability, a positioning that resonates with regulated industries.

The round also signals what investors believe about timing. Agent reliability has improved sharply over the past year, driven by better reasoning models and tool-use frameworks. Tasks that failed silently in 2024 now complete with verifiable results. That shift turned coding agents from demos into line items in engineering budgets.

Competition, however, is intensifying. Model providers continue to absorb agent functionality into their own platforms, threatening to commoditize the layer Factory occupies. The startup's defense rests on deep integration, proprietary evaluation data, and the messy reality that enterprise codebases resist generic solutions.
