October 18, 2026, (Inside AI) — Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL) will open its Rs 30,213-crore initial public offering on October 21, with a price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share. The issue, which closes on October 23, comprises 27 crore fresh equity shares. Brokerage firms have identified mobile subscriber upgrades, home broadband expansion, artificial intelligence, and international technology partnerships as the company's key growth drivers.

The IPO comes as Jio's telecom business shows improving unit economics. Its subscriber base stood at 533.3 million in June 2026. Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose from Rs 181.7 in FY24 to Rs 215.6 in the first quarter of FY27, while monthly data consumption per subscriber reached 43.7 GB. These figures suggest a maturing core business, which makes the company's diversification plans central to its investment case.

Analysts see the largest near-term opportunity in upgrading India's remaining 2G users. According to GEPL Capital, around 261 million mobile subscribers in India were still on 2G networks as of June 30, 2026. The brokerage points to affordable devices such as the Rs 799 JioBharat phone as a way to attract these customers. GEPL also expects periodic tariff revisions, greater adoption of premium plans, and the bundling of entertainment, cloud storage, gaming, and AI-based services to support further ARPU growth.

Home broadband is another segment where brokerages see significant potential. Jio had 28.6 million JioFiber and JioAirFiber subscribers as of June 2026. Citing industry projections, GEPL Capital said India's fixed broadband penetration, estimated at around 21% in FY26, could reach 46% by FY31. That would represent a doubling of household connections in five years.

The AI angle is less developed but potentially more valuable. Jio's AI platform, JioBrain, is being deployed in network operations. According to Ventura Securities, it could form part of a broader technology monetisation strategy. GEPL Capital notes that Jio plans to explore partnerships with overseas telecom operators to commercialise its proprietary 5G core, cloud-native radio access network, operational and business support systems, and fixed wireless access technologies. The company also intends to extend JioBrain and autonomous network capabilities to telecom operators and other industries globally.

This international ambition carries strategic weight. If Jio can sell its 5G stack and AI platform to foreign operators, it would transform from a domestic telecom provider into a technology exporter. That shift would justify a higher valuation multiple than pure telecom peers. However, execution risks remain, including geopolitical hurdles and competition from established network equipment vendors.

Can JioBrain Turn AI Into A Revenue Stream?

The JioBrain platform is central to the AI narrative. It is currently used internally for network optimisation, but Ventura and GEPL both see potential for external commercialisation. Jio has not disclosed revenue targets or customer commitments for JioBrain. The lack of disclosed metrics makes it difficult to assess the platform's standalone value. Still, the company's scale gives it a testing ground that few rivals can match.

Brokerage reports from SMC Global also support the growth thesis, though specific details from its report were not immediately available. The consensus among the three firms is that Jio's next phase of growth will come from monetising proprietary technology and expanding into enterprise digital services, not just from adding subscribers or raising tariffs.

The IPO's size and timing reflect confidence in India's digital economy. With 2G upgrades, broadband expansion, AI monetisation, and global partnerships all in play, Jio Platforms is asking investors to value it as more than a telecom operator. The coming months will show whether that vision holds up to scrutiny.
