October 31, 2026, (Inside AI) — Meta has quietly released a new AI fashion app called Style Sketch, now live on iOS and Android in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. The app builds a digital closet from clothes users already own and suggests outfit combinations, virtual try-ons, and trip-based wardrobe plans. Meta declined to comment on the launch and has not confirmed a wider rollout.

The launch signals Meta's expanding push into standalone AI consumer apps beyond its core social platforms. Style Sketch joins a crowded market for AI closet tools, but Meta's integration with Instagram gives it a distinct advantage: access to millions of real-world outfit photos that users already share on the platform.

Instagram Data Gives Meta a Training Edge

Style Sketch lets users connect their Instagram accounts so the app can pull photos they have posted. Users can also snap pictures, record short videos, or upload images from their camera roll. The app then suggests outfit combinations tailored to each user's style. A virtual try-on feature places the outfit on a model matched to the user's body shape and skin tone. Users can select one wardrobe item and receive full outfit ideas built around it. A trip planning feature creates a day-by-day outfit plan once users enter the destination, length of the trip, and planned activities, factoring in the local weather forecast.

Meta's edge is Instagram integration. Millions of users already share outfit photos on the platform, providing a pool of real-world fashion content that gives Style Sketch a head start on training data. Rival apps like Alta already offer AI-powered closet tools, and Google Photos provides digital closet features of its own. But none of those competitors have direct access to a social graph of user-generated fashion imagery at Meta's scale.

The quiet launch in three Southeast Asian markets suggests Meta is testing the app in a region with high mobile adoption and diverse fashion preferences. Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand offer a mix of fast-growing digital economies and established retail markets. Meta has not disclosed user numbers or engagement metrics for Style Sketch.

The app is part of a broader AI push at Meta. The company has released several standalone AI tools this year, including Waddle World, a vibe-coding tool called Pocket, and the Vibes AI video generation app. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly told staff that Meta plans to launch far more apps than before.

“We're going to launch a lot more apps than we have in the past,” Zuckerberg reportedly told staff, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Meta's strategy mirrors a broader industry trend of tech giants spinning out standalone AI products rather than embedding features into existing platforms. This approach allows for faster iteration and clearer user feedback, but it also fragments the company's AI efforts across multiple apps. For Style Sketch, the key question is whether Instagram's data advantage translates into a product that users find genuinely useful, or whether the app becomes another experimental release in Meta's growing portfolio.

The fashion AI space has seen increased activity in recent years. Startups like Alta have raised funding to build digital closet tools, while Google has integrated AI-powered wardrobe suggestions into Google Photos. Meta's entry could pressure smaller players, but the company's track record with standalone apps is mixed. Several past experiments, such as the anonymous social app Rooms and the newsletter platform Bulletin, were shut down after failing to gain traction.

Style Sketch's success may depend on how well it integrates with Instagram's existing fashion ecosystem. Influencers and brands already use Instagram to showcase outfits, and the app could potentially leverage that content to improve recommendations. However, privacy concerns around data usage and body scanning could pose challenges, especially in markets with strict data protection laws like Singapore.

Meta has not provided a timeline for expanding Style Sketch to other regions. The company declined to comment on the app's performance or future plans. For now, the launch remains a limited test in three Southeast Asian countries, with the rest of the world watching to see if Meta can turn Instagram's fashion content into a compelling AI product.
