September 1, 2026, (Inside AI) — WeChat Pay has expanded its AI AgentPay Card to support DeepSeek Harness and OpenClaw, adding two agent platforms to the payment service's supported ecosystem. The move lets users authorize an agent to recommend a paid service, place an order, and initiate payment within a single conversation.

The integration targets a growing demand for autonomous transactions inside AI workflows. It also signals Tencent's push to make WeChat Pay a default settlement layer for agent-driven commerce. Funds remain separate from a user's main WeChat Pay account, and every payment still requires final confirmation on a phone.

Agent Payments Move From Demo To Daily Use

The AgentPay Card now covers more than 700 Pay Skills on Tencent's SkillHub. These skills span digital goods, subscriptions, and in-app services that agents can trigger without leaving a chat. DeepSeek Harness and OpenClaw join an ecosystem that already includes select agent frameworks and enterprise tooling.

Tencent has not disclosed revenue-sharing terms or developer fees. But the expansion suggests a deliberate effort to standardize how agents access payment rails. Industry observers note that payment confirmation on a phone remains a friction point, yet it also serves as a safety valve against runaway agent spending.

DeepSeek Harness is widely used among Chinese developers for task automation and research workflows. OpenClaw focuses on open-source agent orchestration. Both platforms gain a direct path to monetization, a persistent challenge for agent builders.

Phone Confirmation Keeps Humans In The Loop

Every transaction still requires a final tap on a mobile device. That design choice contrasts with fully autonomous payment experiments seen elsewhere. It also aligns with Chinese regulators' emphasis on user consent and transaction transparency.

Funds held in the AgentPay Card are isolated from the main WeChat Pay balance. This structure limits exposure if an agent behaves unexpectedly or a prompt injection attack occurs. Security researchers have long warned that agentic systems need spending caps and per-transaction approval.

Tencent's approach mirrors a broader industry trend: enable agent commerce, but keep a human checkpoint. Competitors such as Alipay and international players like Stripe are exploring similar agent payment protocols. The race is less about removing friction and more about building trust.

For developers, the integration lowers the barrier to monetizing agent skills. For users, it offers a controlled way to let AI assistants pay for services. The long-term question is whether phone confirmation will persist or gradually fade as agent reliability improves.
