August 20, 2026, (Inside AI) — Google has launched its Gemini Student Hub in Pakistan, introducing a suite of AI study tools for coursework, exam prep, research, and career planning. The dedicated Gemini for Students page is now live in Pakistan, while new study notebooks roll out to personal accounts globally.

Pakistani students can upload lecture notes, presentations, syllabi, and reading materials. Gemini then generates step-by-step explanations and personalized learning content based on those documents. The study notebooks begin with a diagnostic quiz to identify weak areas, then create smaller targeted lessons that adapt as students complete more quizzes.

The notebooks integrate with NotebookLM, letting students convert materials into flashcards and infographics. Gemini also helps build study guides, practice quizzes, and offers writing, brainstorming, outlining, and proofreading support. Research features pull from Google Search to provide supporting sources and citations.

Career tools include CV review, practice interview questions tailored to job descriptions, and career path exploration based on skills. Gemini's image tools can create or edit professional headshots. However, Pakistani students are not currently eligible for Google's new one-year free premium AI student offer.

Why Pakistan's Launch Skips the Premium Student Perk

Google's decision to exclude Pakistan from the premium offer mirrors its historical approach to staggered feature rollouts in South Asia. In 2023, Google delayed Bard's launch in the European Union over regulatory concerns. In Pakistan, payment infrastructure and ad market maturity often dictate feature availability.

The free tier still gives students meaningful access. But the gap between free and premium matters. Premium tiers typically include faster models, larger context windows, and priority access during peak hours. For students relying on AI for exam prep, those differences can affect workflow.

Google has not publicly explained the exclusion. A company spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment. The lack of clarity leaves Pakistani students wondering when, or if, the offer will arrive.

Study Notebooks Signal a Shift Toward Agentic Learning

The study notebooks represent more than a feature update. They point toward a future where AI acts as a tutor, not just a chatbot. The diagnostic quiz, adaptive lessons, and NotebookLM integration create a feedback loop that mimics one-on-one instruction.

This approach competes directly with Khan Academy's Khanmigo and Microsoft's Copilot for Education. Both platforms emphasize personalized learning paths. Google's advantage lies in its integration with Search and Workspace, which students already use.

But the tools raise questions about academic integrity. If Gemini can outline essays and proofread assignments, where is the line between assistance and cheating? Google frames the tools as study aids, but universities may view them differently.

For now, Pakistani students gain access to a broader set of AI learning tools. The premium offer remains limited, but the free tier still delivers substantial functionality. The real test will be whether students use these tools to deepen understanding or simply to complete assignments faster.
