September 29, 2026, (Inside AI) — Tencent has begun recruiting closed-beta testers for an AI gaming companion called Goose Dimension, a product that can watch a player's screen and talk back in real time, according to an official Tencent questionnaire and local reports.
The Shenzhen-based gaming giant has not announced a launch date, pricing, or the full scope of the product's features. The recruitment form, written in Chinese, confirms only that a closed test is underway and that participants are being screened for eligibility. Inside AI could not independently verify the product's technical capabilities beyond what the questionnaire and local reports describe.
What is known: Goose Dimension supports voice chat and uses screen recognition to understand what is happening inside a game, then responds with spoken commentary or guidance. That combination places it closer to a live co-pilot than to the text-based chatbots that have dominated consumer AI releases over the past three years.
Why Screen Reading Changes The Game
Most AI gaming tools released so far operate on text prompts or static screenshots. A player types a question, and the model answers. Goose Dimension, by contrast, appears designed to watch gameplay continuously and react without a prompt. That requires low-latency vision processing, real-time speech generation, and enough game-specific knowledge to avoid nonsensical output.

The technical bar is high. Latency above a few hundred milliseconds breaks the illusion of a companion. Tencent has not disclosed which model powers the product or whether it runs on-device, in the cloud, or through a hybrid setup. The questionnaire does not mention hardware requirements, suggesting the beta may run on existing phones or PCs.
Tencent's gaming division, which owns titles including Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, generated tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue. The company has invested heavily in AI research through its AI Lab and has deployed large language models in customer service, content moderation, and game NPCs. Goose Dimension would be its most direct consumer-facing AI product tied to live play.
The timing matters. Competitors are moving in the same direction. Microsoft has tested AI companions for Xbox, and several startups offer real-time coaching tools for competitive titles. None has achieved mainstream adoption, partly because players resist unsolicited advice during ranked matches. Tencent's scale and ownership of popular titles could give it an advantage in distribution, but also raises questions about whether the companion will be baked into first-party games or offered as a standalone app.
Privacy is another unresolved issue. A product that watches a player's screen and listens to voice chat collects sensitive data. Tencent has not published a data handling policy for Goose Dimension. The questionnaire asks testers about their gaming habits and device specifications but does not appear to include a detailed consent form for screen recording or audio capture. That omission may draw scrutiny from regulators in China, where personal information protection laws have tightened since 2021.
Tencent has not named any executives associated with the project or provided a timeline for the beta. The company also has not said whether Goose Dimension will be available outside China. Local reports describe it as an AI game companion, but the official questionnaire avoids that label, calling it only a test recruitment.
For now, the product remains a closed experiment. Tencent's willingness to recruit testers publicly suggests the company sees enough promise to move beyond internal prototyping. Whether players want a voice in their ear during every match is a separate question, and one the beta is presumably designed to answer.

Tencent shares trade in Hong Kong and the company reports quarterly earnings in November. Investors may press management for details on AI monetization during that call, though Goose Dimension is unlikely to appear in revenue forecasts this year. The beta recruitment continues, and Tencent has not indicated when it will close.
