Before the England vs France third-place match for FIFA world cup 2026, we asked DeekSeek and Claude AI to analyze deeply and predict the winner of the match. We also enabled Deep Thinking for DeeSeek. Both models predicted France as a winner. DeeSeek predicted a 3-2 win for France while Claude predicted a 2-1 win for France.

Although DeepSeek predicted a high-scoring match and a safe prediction of confirmed goals from Mbappe, the overall predictions were a disaster. This shows that when it comes to predicting an event, AI is pathetic and highly unreliable. AI is not a prediction machine. It only follow strict patterns and it's thinking revolves around that strict patterns and human-fed instructions only.

What Both Models Thinks About the Emotional State of English Team Before the Match?

Both DeepSeek and Claude concluded that the English team is extremely heart broken after the semifinal loss against Argentina. They are disappointed and it will be difficult for them to play with full potential and they will lack the urge for win. This analysis seemed logical. After all, England had come so close to their first World Cup final since 1966, only to fall at the final hurdle.

Yet this psychological assessment proved completely backward. Instead of being emotionally devastated, England channeled their semifinal disappointment into an extraordinary performance. This fundamental misreading of human psychology reveals AI's profound inability to understand how individuals and teams process disappointment and transform it into motivation.

The core issue lies in AI's relationship with uncertainty. These models operate on patterns, historical data, and statistical probabilities. They excel at processing vast amounts of information and identifying trends. However, sport—like much of human endeavor contains inherent unpredictability that no algorithm can fully capture. Variables like emotional response, momentum shifts, individual moments of brilliance, and the intangible human spirit simply cannot be reduced to data points.

Both models predicted a relatively controlled match, with DeepSeek's 3-2 and Claude's 2-1 indicating a reasonably tight affair. The actual 6-4 scoreline represented a goal-fest that neither model could have anticipated.

Although almost everything goes wrong with the predictions, two things are worth noting about DeepSeek AI:

  1. DeepSeek specifically mentioned in its prediction that Mbappe will surely perform well as he is in the golden boot race with Lional Messi.
  2. It also mentioned that the match will be high scoring. Although it suggested a 3-2 score which is less than the actual 6-4, it still predicted better than Claude.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place playoff between England and France was a showcase of footballing excellence, but it became something far more revealing: a proof of artificial intelligence's fundamental limitations in understanding human emotion, unpredictability, and the beautiful chaos of sport.
