June 19, 2026, (Inside AI) — At its 49th Annual General Meeting, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) unveiled an ambitious AI roadmap to make India a global leader in artificial intelligence. Chairman Mukesh Ambani declared that India must not be a mere consumer of foreign AI. Instead, the country should build technologies for domestic and global markets.
Ambani drew parallels to Jio's disruption of mobile data. He said Reliance now aims to make AI accessible to all. The centerpiece is Reliance Intelligence, a platform first introduced in 2025. It promises AI for everyone, everywhere.
The platform will enable Indian engineers to build and deploy AI for over 1.5 billion people. Ambani stressed affordability, accessibility, and trust. He said, "I firmly believe that India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere. India must become a global leader in AI."
Reliance announced a sovereign AI backbone. A large AI infrastructure facility in Jamnagar will run on renewable energy from Kutch. An initial 120 Megawatts capacity will be commissioned by end of 2026. It will use NVIDIA GB300 systems for AI inference workloads.
The company claimed this will be among the largest AI infrastructure projects globally. Partnerships with Google, Meta, and NVIDIA aim to accelerate AI adoption. Google AI Pro is already free for millions of Jio users. Meta's Llama is developing enterprise AI solutions.
Embedding AI Inside the Network Fabric
Jio is taking a unique approach by embedding AI directly into its telecom network. Akash Ambani said, "Across the world AI is an app on the phone. Jio is doing something fundamentally different. We are building AI directly into the heart of the network."
Future capabilities may include call transcription, multilingual summaries, and conference call assistance. AI agents could book cabs or schedule appointments. User consent and privacy remain central, especially for payments.
Reliance Intelligence will offer AI-powered services for various segments. JioBharatIQ is an AI companion for everyday users. JioVyapar IQ assists small businesses. JioHealth IQ targets healthcare. JioLearn IQ serves education. JioKrishi IQ helps farmers make better decisions.
The MyJio app will evolve into a personal AI agent. It will handle onboarding, eSIM activation, and customer support. JioHome and JioTeleFrame will host multiple AI agents for shopping, entertainment, and smart-home experiences in Indian languages.
Reliance sees AI as a growth engine for productivity and job creation. Technologies from Reliance Intelligence could become a major digital export pillar. Jio now serves over 524 million users with 268 million 5G subscribers. This scale, combined with infrastructure and partnerships, aims to accelerate AI adoption across India.
The company's push mirrors Jio's impact on mobile internet. By embedding AI into everyday services, Reliance seeks to make artificial intelligence accessible at scale for consumers and businesses alike.
