October 7, 2026, (Inside AI) — Meta unveiled a sweeping set of AI advertising tools at Advertising Week 2026 in New York on October 6, including in-chat checkout via Messenger and Meta AI, an expanded Ads MCP server, and new creative generation features. The announcements signal Meta's push to embed AI across the entire advertising lifecycle, from creative production to direct commerce.

The company's AI business assistant now accesses historical campaign data, including past performance, seasonality patterns, and previously stated goals. Advertisers can import brand voice guidelines and strategy documents directly into the assistant. Meta is also testing scheduled tasks that deliver recurring performance reports and alerts automatically.

On the creative side, Meta made its Advantage+ Creative video generation tool generally available. The feature converts static image assets into video ads. The Ads Creative Studio, which had an initial rollout to select partners earlier in 2026, now offers broader access. It lets advertisers generate video concepts with editing controls for hooks, audio, length, text overlays, captions, and end scenes. Advertisers can also generate video directly from product catalog listings.

Meta introduced a customer lifecycle strategy tool, now available to all advertisers. The feature enables targeted audience selection per campaign with AI-aligned recommendations for reaching users at different stages.

In commerce, Meta revealed direct checkout capabilities through its Business Agent on Messenger. The company partnered with Shopify to enable in-stream purchasing without leaving the conversation. Meta is also testing direct checkout for Meta AI with payment partners Adyen, PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe. This allows users to complete purchases within the chat interface itself.

For developers and agencies, Meta expanded its Ads MCP server. The server now supports third-party AI tool integration for campaign management, which means external platforms can connect directly to Meta's advertising infrastructure.

These announcements build on Meta's broader AI advertising push throughout 2026. The company launched its Ads Creative Studio earlier this year and introduced a Business AI agent for small and medium businesses that learns from existing social posts and ad campaigns. Video now accounts for 60% of user time on both Facebook and Instagram, according to Meta's own data, which explains the heavy focus on AI video generation tools.

Meta's move comes as competition in AI advertising intensifies. Google has been integrating AI into its Ads platform, and Amazon has been expanding its advertising AI. The in-chat checkout feature could reshape social commerce, but it also raises questions about data privacy and user experience. Meta has not disclosed how it will handle payment data or whether users will be able to opt out of AI-driven recommendations.

The Ads MCP server expansion could be a significant development for developers. MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that allows AI models to interact with external tools and data. By supporting MCP, Meta is making it easier for third-party AI tools to manage campaigns on its platform. This could lead to a new ecosystem of AI-powered advertising tools.

Meta's announcement also highlights the growing importance of video. With video accounting for 60% of user time on Facebook and Instagram, according to Meta's own data, the company is betting that AI-generated video ads will drive engagement and revenue. The Advantage+ Creative video generation tool and Ads Creative Studio are designed to make it easier for advertisers to produce video content at scale.

However, the effectiveness of these tools remains to be seen. AI-generated ads can sometimes feel generic or miss the mark. Meta's AI business assistant, with its memory and context capabilities, aims to address this by learning from past campaigns and brand guidelines. But advertisers will need to trust the AI to make decisions about their creative and targeting.

Meta's in-chat checkout could also face challenges. While it offers convenience, users may be hesitant to make purchases within a chat interface. Security and trust are key concerns. Meta's partnerships with established payment providers like PayPal and Stripe could help alleviate some of these concerns.

Overall, Meta's Advertising Week announcements represent a significant step in the company's AI strategy. By integrating AI across creative, management, and commerce, Meta is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for advertisers. The success of these tools will depend on how well they perform and whether advertisers and users embrace them.
