October 8, 2026, (Inside AI) — OpenAI has started a global rollout of GPT-6 inside ChatGPT, introducing a feature it calls Intelligent UI that lets the chatbot generate interactive graphics, charts, forms, and tappable buttons directly within a conversation. Paid subscribers on Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans received the update first. Free and Go users begin receiving it today, Thursday, October 8.

The release marks OpenAI's most significant change to ChatGPT's interface since the product launched. Instead of returning only text, GPT-6 can now decide on its own whether a question is better answered with a diagram, a calculator, a bill splitter, or a simple game built on the spot. The company says the capability moves ChatGPT beyond a text box and toward software that adapts to the user rather than forcing users to navigate fixed menus.

According to OpenAI, the system rests on a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes interfaces as GPT-6 generates them. Interactive elements appear progressively rather than waiting for the entire response to finish. The model was trained to make decisions about content, layout, and the level of interactivity a given question requires. A user asking about a bicycle, for example, would receive an interactive diagram breaking the object into its parts. A user asking for a quick calculation would get a working calculator inside the chat window.

"GPT-6 in ChatGPT introduces Intelligent UI, a new capability that allows ChatGPT to answer quickly with fully interactive user interfaces that make everyday answers more visual, make learning complex topics easier, and can swiftly create a tool to solve a task right in the moment," the company said in its announcement.

Speed is the second pillar of the release. OpenAI says GPT-6 can begin answering while it continues to reason or call tools, adding information progressively instead of waiting for its full reasoning chain to complete. In an internal evaluation of high-value everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High began responding in roughly the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring higher overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High. On web research, GPT-6 Instant starts responding 44 per cent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant when a search is required. OpenAI also claims the model is better at judging when a search is necessary and at finding supporting information.

The rollout splits model access by tier. Paid ChatGPT plans use GPT-6 Sol, while free and Go users receive GPT-6 Luna. The update applies only to the chat experience. OpenAI says the models powering ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release, a detail that matters for enterprise customers who have built workflows around those products.

Safety claims accompany the launch. OpenAI says GPT-6 resists multi-turn attempts to bypass safeguards more effectively than earlier models and carries improved protections against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks and biological threats. The company also says the model is trained to recognize its own limits and to tell users when it lacks the information or tools needed to answer a question. Independent verification of those claims is not yet available. Inside AI could not independently verify the internal benchmark figures cited by the company.

The timing places GPT-6 in a crowded field. Google has spent the past year pushing Gemini deeper into Workspace, while Anthropic has positioned Claude around long-context reasoning and enterprise safety. OpenAI's decision to lead with interface rather than raw benchmark scores suggests the company sees user experience, not model capability alone, as the next competitive frontier. The claim that over 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT each week gives that strategy unusual reach. If even a fraction of those users encounter interactive answers by default, the change could reset expectations for what a chatbot is supposed to do.

Whether Intelligent UI becomes a genuine shift or a polished demo depends on execution at scale. Generating reliable interactive components on the fly is harder than generating text, and errors in a chart or calculator are more visible than errors in prose. OpenAI has not published independent evaluations of the interface's accuracy. The company has also not said when the underlying models will reach ChatGPT Work and Codex, leaving enterprise users to watch from the sidelines for now.
