Anthropic Launches Claude Tag in Slack: Enterprise AI Goes Multiplayer

Anthropic launches Claude Tag, an AI agent in Slack that users summon with @Claude to read conversations, break down tasks, and proactively flag updates. The beta release targets enterprise customers, with plans for wider platform rollout.

June 24, 2026, (Inside AI) — Anthropic launched Claude Tag on Tuesday, an AI agent embedded in Salesforce’s Slack that works alongside employees in group chats. Users summon the agent by typing @Claude in a thread, where it reads conversations, breaks down tasks, and proactively flags relevant updates across an organization without being asked. The tool retains context over time and is available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, with plans to expand to other platforms in the coming weeks.

This launch deepens Anthropic’s push into the enterprise market, a key battleground for AI startups. Strong business demand has pushed its valuation to $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI. The company confidentially filed for an IPO earlier this month. Claude Tag marks a shift from private AI interactions to a collaborative, “multiplayer” model, directly integrating AI into team workflows.

Cat Wu, Anthropic’s head of product for Claude Code, highlighted the power of the tagging form factor. She said:

“A lot of the capabilities did exist, but actually the form factor of being able to tag it the same way that you would a coworker is really powerful.”

Wu demonstrated personal use: her Claude Tag accesses Gmail, reads messages, flags important senders, and posts alerts to Slack where she is more responsive. The agent proactively surfaces information without manual prompting, blending into existing communication channels.

Administrators can tightly control the data and tools Claude Tag accesses in each channel, addressing enterprise security concerns. Rob Seaman, Slack’s general manager, said in a statement:

“making AI multiplayer. Instead of a private back-and-forth, Claude Tag shows up in the open.”

This approach contrasts with typical AI assistants that operate in isolated interfaces. By appearing in shared threads, Claude Tag makes AI actions visible to the team, potentially increasing trust and adoption. However, challenges remain: ensuring context retention doesn’t violate privacy, preventing information overload from proactive alerts, and managing AI errors in public channels.

Anthropic’s move follows a trend of embedding AI agents into collaboration tools. Competitors like Microsoft’s Copilot in Teams and Google’s Duet AI in Workspace offer similar features, but Claude Tag’s proactive, context-aware design aims to differentiate it. The focus on cross-platform expansion suggests Anthropic sees this as a core part of its enterprise strategy, not just a Slack feature.

Industry analysts note that while the “multiplayer AI” concept is promising, success hinges on execution. The agent must accurately interpret context without becoming intrusive, and companies must navigate data governance complexities. Anthropic’s tight controls may ease adoption in regulated industries.

The launch also underscores the escalating AI platform wars, with startups and tech giants vying for enterprise dominance. As Anthropic prepares for an IPO, Claude Tag could become a key selling point for its enterprise offerings, demonstrating practical, collaborative AI beyond single-user chatbots.
