August 4, 2026, (Inside AI) — Chinese embodied-AI startup PaXini has secured a RMB1 billion strategic funding round, the company confirmed on Aug. 3. The investment pushes its total fundraising to RMB3.5 billion, underscoring intense investor appetite for tactile-sensing technology critical to next-generation robotics.

The round was jointly led by an unnamed global consumer electronics and semiconductor group, BOC International Investment, Kunpeng Fund, and Hexin Fangce. Other participants include Dinghui Baifu, Chengdu Jiazi AI Fund, Jingming Capital, and Tianjin Rongguo Sheng. Existing investor Zhílai Capital also increased its stake.

PaXini’s tactile-sensing chips have shipped nearly 1 million units in the past year. The fresh capital will fuel R&D, manufacturing scale-up, and overseas expansion. This milestone arrives as embodied AI, which integrates perception, cognition, and physical interaction, moves from lab to factory floor.

A Strategic Bet on the Sense of Touch

Tactile sensing remains a stubborn bottleneck in robotics. While vision and language models have advanced rapidly, enabling machines to feel texture, pressure, and temperature has lagged. PaXini’s chips aim to close that gap, giving robots the dexterity for tasks like delicate assembly or surgical assistance.

The involvement of a global consumer electronics and semiconductor heavyweight, though unnamed, signals strategic alignment. Such firms often seek to embed tactile sensors into wearables, smartphones, or home robots. PaXini’s technology could become a standard component, much like cameras or microphones.

Research underscores the market potential. A 2025 paper on large-scale tactile sensing for humanoid robots highlights how dense sensor arrays enable real-time object manipulation. PaXini’s million-unit shipment volume suggests it has already moved beyond prototypes to commercial deployment.

Race for Embodied AI Dominance Heats Up

PaXini’s raise mirrors broader industry momentum. In 2025, Chinese humanoid robot firm UBTech secured over $500 million, while U.S.-based Figure AI raised $675 million at a $2.6 billion valuation. Tactile sensing is a common thread: it is essential for robots to manipulate objects in unstructured environments.

Yet challenges persist. Tactile sensors must be durable, low-power, and cheap enough for mass production. PaXini’s ability to ship at scale gives it a lead, but competitors are emerging. Startups like GelSight and academic spinoffs are also commercializing vision-based tactile sensors.

The unnamed lead investor’s identity adds intrigue. It could be a firm like Xiaomi, which has invested heavily in robotics, or a semiconductor giant like MediaTek seeking new chip markets. Such backing often comes with integration commitments that can accelerate adoption.

PaXini’s overseas expansion plans signal global ambitions. The company may target automotive, logistics, or healthcare sectors where precision handling is critical. Its cumulative RMB3.5 billion war chest provides ample runway for this push.

As embodied AI evolves, tactile sensing will likely become a foundational layer, much like computer vision today. PaXini’s latest funding round positions it as a key enabler of that future.
