September 16, 2026, (Inside AI) — Meta has launched a paid subscription service that bundles higher AI usage limits with creator and business tools across its social platforms. The service, called Meta One, was unveiled on September 15 and is being rolled out gradually worldwide. It arrives as Meta seeks new revenue streams beyond advertising and as competition for AI power users intensifies among major technology firms.

Meta One subscribers gain access to more than 50 features across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta AI. The company plans to extend these features to other apps, including Edits and its AI-powered smart glasses. The service is available in India with single product plans starting at Rs 79 per month, while individual bundles Meta One Core and Premium are priced at Rs 549 and Rs 1,950 per month, respectively. Creator and business bundles start at Rs 639 per month.

"Subscriptions unlock more specialized capabilities and expanded AI usage that go beyond what a free experience built for billions can offer," Meta said in a press note. The company emphasized that the core user experience across its platforms and Meta AI will remain free.

The subscription push reflects a broader industry shift. Technology companies are increasingly looking to monetize AI features directly, as the computational costs of running large models strain profit margins. Meta's move follows similar efforts by other firms to offer tiered access to AI capabilities, though the company's scale and integration across multiple apps give it a distinct approach.

Meta One is structured into three broad tiers. Single product plans include Instagram Plus at Rs 99 per month, WhatsApp Plus at Rs 79 per month, and Facebook Plus at Rs 99 per month. These plans offer exclusive themes, custom app icons, super hearts, special effect stickers, the ability to pin more chats in WhatsApp, custom DM and Story fonts on Instagram, more Reels insights, and user-specific notifications. According to Meta, these single product plans launched earlier this year and have recorded over 15 million subscriptions and trials to date.

The Core and Premium bundles target individual AI power users. Core provides more usage of compute-intensive AI features, including the ability to generate more images and videos with Meta AI, voice effects, and restyling more Instagram Stories. Premium offers similar features with higher limits for content creation across Meta's family of apps. These plans are designed for users who want greater creative freedom from Meta's AI tools.

For creators, the tailored bundle starting at Rs 639 per month includes a verified badge, a verified channel on WhatsApp Business, and impersonation protection. Businesses gain access to professional-grade tools, with higher tiers offering advanced publishing features like scheduling stories up to 30 days in advance, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics, and deeper audience insights. Team members can access an account without sharing passwords. Businesses can also use Meta Business Agent to respond to customers 24/7. The highest tiers, Expert and Max, start at Rs 6,399 and Rs 20,990 per month, respectively, and offer advanced features and extra Meta Business Agent capacity for teams managing at scale.

The launch raises questions about whether users will pay for features that were previously free or bundled. Meta's bet is that AI power users and businesses will see enough value in higher limits and specialized tools to justify the cost. The company's existing free tier remains robust, which could limit conversion. However, the 15 million subscriptions and trials for single product plans suggest some willingness to pay for enhanced experiences.

Meta's move also signals a strategic shift in how AI services are delivered. As generative AI becomes more capable, companies are experimenting with pricing models that reflect the underlying compute costs. Meta One's tiered structure mirrors this trend, offering more AI usage at higher price points. The success of this model could influence how other platforms package AI features.

For now, Meta One is rolling out gradually, and its long-term impact on Meta's revenue and user engagement remains to be seen. The company's ability to convert free users into paying subscribers will depend on the perceived value of the AI features and the competitive landscape. As AI becomes more central to social media experiences, Meta's subscription experiment will be closely watched by investors and rivals alike.
