September 30, 2026, (Inside AI) — The animated comedy South Park will air a new episode on Wednesday, September 30, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, taking direct aim at the artificial intelligence data center boom. The episode, titled “Billionaire Weenietown,” centers on the character Butters and his unhappiness with the data centers that billionaires are building in residential neighborhoods.

The episode marks the second installment of the show’s 29th season, which premiered earlier this month under a temporary marketing rebrand. On September 8, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the series would be renamed “South America” as a satirical jab at President Donald Trump’s executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake of America. The name change is promotional and does not alter the show’s production or distribution.

The decision to build an episode around data centers reflects a growing cultural friction point. As AI companies race to expand computing capacity, data centers have become a visible presence in many communities, consuming large amounts of electricity and water while generating noise and traffic. Local opposition has emerged in states like Virginia, Georgia, and Texas, where residents have raised concerns about land use, utility costs, and environmental impact.

“Butters is unhappy with the data centers that the billionaires are building in our backyards,” the official log line reads, according to a news release. The phrasing echoes a sentiment that has moved from niche planning meetings to mainstream political discourse. In recent months, both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have introduced bills to study or restrict data center development, citing strain on power grids.

South Park has a long history of satirizing technology and corporate power. Past episodes have mocked Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and cryptocurrency culture. The show’s willingness to tackle AI infrastructure suggests the topic has reached a level of public awareness that transcends industry circles.

The timing is notable. The episode airs on the same day that several major AI companies are expected to report quarterly earnings, with investors watching capital expenditure on data centers closely. Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount Global, has not disclosed viewership projections for the episode.

For viewers without cable, the episode will be available to stream the next day on Paramount+. The service offers an Essential plan with ads at $8.99 per month or $89.99 annually, and a Premium ad-free plan at $13.99 per month or $139.99 annually.

The remainder of Season 29 will air biweekly on Comedy Central. The scheduled dates are October 14, October 28, November 11, and November 25. Each episode will also stream next day on Paramount+.

While South Park’s primary target is often political, the data center episode arrives amid a broader reckoning. Tech companies have pledged billions to build AI infrastructure, but local governments are increasingly pushing back. In Loudoun County, Virginia, known as “Data Center Alley,” officials have slowed approvals amid resident complaints. Similar debates are unfolding in Georgia and Arizona.

The episode’s title, “Billionaire Weenietown,” suggests the show will caricature tech billionaires as out-of-touch figures imposing industrial projects on communities. That portrayal aligns with public polling showing declining trust in tech leaders. A Pew Research Center survey from June 2026 found that 62% of Americans believe tech companies have too much power.

Paramount Global has not made Parker or Stone available for interviews about the episode. The creators have historically avoided explaining their satire, preferring to let the work speak for itself.

For the AI industry, the episode represents a cultural milestone. When a show as widely watched as South Park devotes an episode to data centers, it signals that the technology’s physical footprint has become part of everyday conversation. The episode may not change policy, but it will likely amplify local concerns to a national audience.

As the season continues, South Park will likely return to other topics. But for one night, the spotlight falls on the servers, the power lines, and the billionaires behind them.
