July 15, 2026, (Inside AI) — Apple has released the first public beta of iOS 27, giving everyday users their first chance to test Siri AI, the company’s ambitious new voice assistant. The beta, available now via Apple’s Beta Software Program, opens access to a select group of iPhone owners ahead of the official fall launch.
This marks the first time the general public can interact with Siri AI, which Apple unveiled at WWDC in June. The assistant promises deeper conversational abilities and tighter integration with apps. However, availability is restricted to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, and users may face a waitlist even with a compatible device.
Siri AI represents Apple’s most aggressive move yet to close the gap in consumer AI, where rivals like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have dominated headlines. During WWDC, Apple framed the assistant as a transformative tool. “It’s a much more capable assistant,” said an Apple executive, emphasizing its ability to handle multi-step tasks across apps.
Early testers report that Siri AI can check concert dates, set reminders to buy tickets, and even plan route logistics—like picking up a friend en route to a venue. A camera mode identifies objects in the real world, surfacing details such as nutritional information for a meal. These features rely on Apple’s new on-device foundation models and Private Cloud Compute for heavier tasks.

Apple’s model development strategy has raised eyebrows. Executives confirmed at a media briefing last month that the models were built with support from Google’s Gemini, but they are not simply rebranded versions. Instead, Apple used a distillation process to create smaller, efficient models tailored for Apple Silicon, using proprietary data. This hybrid approach aims to balance performance with privacy.
Despite the fanfare, Siri AI’s rollout is geographically limited. Apple has confirmed the assistant will not launch in Europe or China due to regulatory hurdles. A standalone Siri AI app is planned for later this year, but no timeline has been given for those regions.
iOS 27 brings more than just Siri AI. Apple claims performance boosts across the board: apps launch 30% faster, photos load 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% quicker. New photo editing tools, enhanced child safety features, and automatic password fixes are also included.
To install the beta, users must enroll at beta.apple.com, then navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select iOS 27 Public Beta. Compatible iPhones include the iPhone 11 series and newer, but Apple Intelligence features remain exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and later. Siri AI’s hardware demands are even stricter, limited to the latest Pro and Air models.
