September 23, 2026, (Inside AI) — Amazon Web Services has launched Amazon CloudWatch Omni, an AI-powered observability platform that extends monitoring to AI agents and applications. The service, now generally available, aims to unify telemetry across AWS and other clouds, including Microsoft Azure, through a single interface.

CloudWatch Omni introduces "spaces" within central accounts, allowing teams to view telemetry from multiple AWS accounts and regions. It automatically discovers services, maps dependencies, and surfaces key metrics. Users can interact via chat, point-and-click console navigation, or through the Agent Toolkit for AWS, which integrates with third-party tools. The platform leverages AWS DevOps Agent to help identify root causes.

"With CloudWatch Omni, you create spaces in your central accounts to see telemetry across your AWS accounts and Regions, as well as other clouds, including Azure workloads," according to AWS. "Omni automatically discovers services, maps dependencies, and surfaces golden metrics to help streamline your operational workflows."

A key feature is the dedicated agent observability experience, which supports frameworks like LangGraph, CrewAI, OpenAI Agents SDK, Vercel AI SDK, and Strands. It enables evaluation-driven development, allowing teams to assess quality and run experiments for every prompt, model call, and tool invocation before deployment.

CloudWatch Omni is available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Ireland). Pricing details are on the CloudWatch Omni pricing page. A free VS Code extension for Cursor and Kiro is available for local agent instrumentation and debugging without an AWS account.

This launch reflects the growing need for observability in AI-driven applications. As organizations deploy more autonomous agents, traditional monitoring tools struggle to provide visibility into complex interactions. CloudWatch Omni addresses this by combining OpenTelemetry interoperability with CloudWatch's scale and reliability.

However, the platform faces competition from established observability providers like Datadog and New Relic, which also offer AI monitoring capabilities. AWS's move could pressure these vendors to enhance their agent observability features. Additionally, the focus on multi-cloud support signals AWS's recognition that enterprises operate in heterogeneous environments.

Industry analysts note that agent observability is becoming critical as AI agents take on more decision-making roles. "The ability to evaluate and debug agents in production is essential for trust and reliability," said an analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity. "AWS is positioning itself to capture this emerging market."

CloudWatch Omni's evaluation-driven workflow allows developers to validate fixes before shipping, reducing the risk of deploying faulty agents. This is particularly important in sectors like finance and healthcare, where errors can have severe consequences.

The service's integration with popular AI frameworks suggests AWS aims to be framework-agnostic, appealing to a broad developer base. By offering a standalone web experience with SSO and IDE extensions, AWS meets developers where they work.

As AI adoption accelerates, tools like CloudWatch Omni will be crucial for maintaining performance and reliability. AWS's early move could set industry standards for agent observability, influencing how competitors develop their offerings.

For now, CloudWatch Omni is available in three regions, with potential expansion to others in the future. AWS has not announced specific plans for additional regions, but the multi-cloud support indicates a global strategy.

In summary, Amazon CloudWatch Omni represents a significant step in AI-first observability, providing unified monitoring for applications and agents. Its success will depend on adoption by enterprises seeking to manage increasingly complex AI systems.
